Originally constructed in 1925, historic Presser Hall is home to the Hollins music
department. Presser Hall’s 14,500 square foot full restoration included updated
classrooms, expanded practice areas, an electronic piano laboratory, modern climate
control and acoustical treatment, seminar room, department lounge, and an elevator and
other accessibility improvements. Presser Hall’s new HVAC system had to be installed
in the attic. As a result, MB created another access point in the roof with a dormer that
blended in with the design. The sprinkler system was installed and left exposed to avoid
disturbing historical building aspects.
