The Town of Crozet sought to create a focal point for community engagement, expand economic opportunities, honor Crozet’s heritage by preserving downtown character, as well as create modern library space. Complete with technology centers, book repositories, and quiet reading spaces, this 23,000 square foot library houses over 75,000 volumes. In addition to using specific reading spaces for separate age groups and advanced technology center availability, the entire lower level of the library serves as a store front for new businesses. Construction focused on minimizing environmental impact and was awarded LEED Silver Certification in 2014. While the project envisioned new economic and community horizons from its inception, it did not overlook significant traditions long held dear by its community. Volunteers of all ages across the community gathered to help transfer books by hand to the new location. The much anticipated Book Brigade was held a few days prior to doors being opened to the public for the first time.
